Multidecadal directional shift in shortgrass stocking rates

چکیده

Bement (1969) developed a stocking rate (SR) guide for yearling cattle grazing shortgrass steppe based on relationships among average daily weight gain (ADG, kg · d?1), beef production per hectare (BP, ha?1), and (animal unit days, AUD ha?1) measured in long-term experiments conducted from 1940 to 1963. These analyses identified an optimal biophysical SR of 13.5 ha?1. Here, we 1) examine modern era (2000?2018) results these same determine if there has been shift the 2) assess influence drought (< 75% normal precipitation) SR. For all years era, occurred at 23.2 ha?1, 72% higher than value reported by (1969). 3 yr, optimum was 14.2 which still exceeded Our show capacity this rangeland produce livestock gains increased substantially between eras. This multidecadal directional is likely driven two nonmutually exclusive factors. First, plant community changed dominance C4 (Bouteloua gracilis) codominance with more productive C3 midgrass (Pascopyrum smithii) era. change resulted pasture-level forage increasing notably Second, entry weights genetic growth potential steers over 8 decades may have influenced efficiency given amount consumed. findings provide guidance incorporating flexible nondrought adaptive management strategies.

Simulation of Sandsage-Bluestem Forage Growth Under Varying Stocking Rates

The effect of stocking rate on forage growth has attracted much research attention in forage science. Findings show that forage growth may be affected by stocking rate, and there is a consensus that high stocking rates lead to soil compaction, which could also in turn affect forage growth because of the changing soil hydrology and increased soil impedance to forage root penetration. In this stu...

Responses of growth rates and growth hormone levels of African catfish (Clarias gariepinus) to stocking density

In order to estimate responses of growth rate and growth hormone of Clarias gariepinus to stocking density, fish (initial weight 30.71 ± 0.89 g) were stocked in 120-L tanks at densities of 35, 65, 95, and 125 kg/m3 for 60 days. On day 30 and 60, the fish growth rates were measured, pituitary growth hormone (GH) mRNA levels and serum GH concentrations were examined by real-time qPCR and ELISA te...

A Fhase-Shift Controlled Bi-directional DC-DC Converter

The newly developed phase-shift controlled bidirectional DC-DC converter has the conventional features of phase-shifted converters, including zero-voltage switching (ZVS) and constant switching frequency. However, it has been improved by developing a bi-directional power flow capability and applying synchronous rectification, hence the on-state voltmge drop of the active devices are small.

On Mean Shift Clustering for Directional Data on a Hypersphere

The mean shift clustering algorithm is a useful tool for clustering numeric data. Recently, Chang-Chien et al. [1] proposed a mean shift clustering algorithm for circular data that are directional data on a plane. In this paper, we extend the mean shift clustering for directional data on a hypersphere. The three types of mean shift procedures are considered. With the proposed mean shift cluster...
